“Spirits Of The Dead pas naadloos in die tijd waarin Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath. Jefferson Airplane en Deep Purple op de top van hun kunnen waren. Af en toe verbeeld ik me bijna dat John Lord of Ken Hensley hoogstpersoonlijk de hammondorgels en melotrons staat te bewerken. Deze debuut-cd klinkt wat dat betreft nog meer als een puike retro hommage dan een band als Wolfmother. Maar juist omdat het zo met smaak gedaan is, gaat het nooit storen en roept het alleen maar extra waardering op.”

Met laatstgenoemde delen ze namelijk de voorkeur voor het toevoegen van een ruime hoeveelheid psychedelische folkprogelementen aan de muziek. Dat klinkt wat vaag, maat het gaat dan ruwweg om de wat rustigere kant van Led Zeppelin. Spirits of the Dead wekt daarbij wel de indruk wat vaker dan Witchcraft ook naar platen van Jefferson Airplane en The Doors te luisteren.”
