“Liefhebbers van melodieuze (power)metal zoals alleen onze oosterburen ze serveren, ik denk aan Helloween en Gamma Ray kunnen zeker hun hartje ophalen met Freedom Call. Met ’Legend Of The Shadowking’ hebben ze een heus conceptalbum uit hun mouw getoverd en aan de veertien tracks te horen is het beslist geen haastklus geworden. De songs zijn prima van opbouw, klinken heroïsch en worden met de nodige bombast opgediend. Door te kiezen voor dit concept trekken ze meteen de aandacht van Edguy, Avantasia en Blind Guardian en dat kan alleen maar in het voordeel van dit kwartet zijn. Het album gaat over Lodewijk II, de sprookjeskoning van Beieren die regeerde in het tweede deel van de 19de eeuw. De monarch liep verdwaald in de wereld van sagen en mythen, ondanks dat hij geen groot heerser was, werd hij graag gezien door het volk. Chris Bay zet op dit opus zijn beste vocale prestatie tot dusver neer.”

“De fans kunnen Legend of the shadowking in ieder geval blind aanschaffen want het is weer een typisch Freedom Call album geworden. Veel uptempo nummers die gekenmerkt worden door het dubbele bassdrumwerk van Dan Zimmerman, prima gitaarpartijen van Lars Rettkowitz en zanger/gitarist Chris Bay en natuurlijk de refreinen die gemaakt zijn om uit volle borst mee te zingen. Live zullen songs als Out of the ruins, Thunder god, Tears of Babylon en Resurrection day het prima doen. Zeer geschikt materiaal voor de grotere hardrock festivals.”

“Op de productie valt niks aan te merken en het is te horen dat er veel aandacht is besteed aan details. Nogmaals, voor fans van Freedom Call is Legend of the shadowking verplichte kost maar ook liefhebbers van bands als Gamma Ray, Dragonforce en Edguy zullen prima uit de voeten kunnen met dit album.”
