Great CD review for the new album “Blackjazz” in the first 2010 issue of OOR magazine.
“Blackjazz belooft wederom een nu-jazz uitbarsting op distortion. Niks geen materiaal hier dat makkelijk weghapt, laat staan dat het woord structuur in het vocabulaire van de jonge en uiterst getalenteerde Munkeby voorkomt.” … “De kracht van Blackjazz is dat de ogenschijnlijke chaos een ongekende schoonheid herbergt. De groep is speels, betreedt nieuw terrein en weet boven alles te boeien.”
Great feature in the January issue of LiveXS magazine, came out a few days before the EuroSonic/Noorderslag festival. See scans below or click here for the entire magazine available as pdf.
VPRO’s 3voor12TV has added the ‘Fisheye’ video, the first single from Shining (No)’s new album “Blackjazz”, to their TV channel. The clip was recorded live on Norwegian TV, late 2009. Watch the clip here.
VPRO’s 3voor12 has added the new Shining (No) album “Blackjazz” to their special Eurosonic Luisterpaal. The band is also listed in a special top 10 for this years festival! Here’s what the experts say:
“Blackjazz met een metalen mes tussen de tanden.” (Atze de Vrieze)
“Dé harde band van Eurosonic!” (Stephan van Peursem)
In Vain in soundcheck Aardschok magazine January/February issue, 73/100 CD review in same issue.
Very cool Wardruna feature in the January issue of Rock Tribune magazine.
Rock Tribune was one of the first of the Benelux media to feature this fantastic band. Shows of Wardruna are rare. The band already played on a Viking ship and in a chapel on a mountain. Later in 2009 Wardruna played at the Incubate festival in an amphitheatre in a forest close to Tilburg in the Netherlands, and the band received raving reviews from fans and media. In January 2010 the band will be performing at the Eurosonic festival in Groningen in the Netherlands.
Wardruna received raving reviews on their 2009 debut Gap Var Ginnunga. Bandleader Kvitrafn (Jotunspor, ex-Gorgoroth) threw his metal roots overboard to make an album full of dark ambient folk. The album is a musical travel trough the history of Norwegian mythology and paganism, made with traditional Norwegian instruments like the goat horn, deer hide frame drums, Hardanger fiddle, lur and tagelharpe (‘viking fiddle’). Also sounds of trees, stones, water and fire can be heard on the album. Many of the recording sessions were executed outdoors at carefully selected locations with instruments or natural sounds that are relevant to the different runes.
